How We Run the Jetter

Water, not a poke. The plumber in Blackalls Park crew brings the jetter out when a line needs its whole bore scrubbed rather than a single plug punched through. The camera goes down first, the pressure is set to the pipe it shows, and a second pass after the wash puts the clean wall on record. The blocked drains hub covers every kind of clear; this page is about the water method.

Is Jetting Safe for Old Clay Sewers?

Yes, when the setting matches the pipe. Three checks decide it:

What the pipe is made of

Glazed clay takes a gentler nozzle than a PVC storm line.

How the joints look

Where the footage shows gaps, the jet works the blockage and eases off at the joint.

What the wall looks like after

A clean pipe can still be split, and the follow-up camera run catches that while the gear is out.

Water scrubs a pipe. It never mends one, and the footage says which job your line needs.

Why Do Some Clears Cost More?

It starts with what is packed inside the pipe:

  • The blockage itself Soap film and fat lift quickly; packed silt or a root mat takes longer passes.
  • The distance to it A short run from the kerb-side shaft is quicker than feeding the hose from a back-corner gully.
  • The pipe material Old clay gets the slower, lighter treatment.
  • The timing A night or weekend clear is priced at the after-hours rate, and that is part of the figure you agree to.

We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.

Flat Ground and Glazed Clay

Silt drops where the fall runs out

Blackalls Park sits low on a bay off the western side of Lake Macquarie, and the blocks nearest the water are the flattest. Stormwater slows as the grade eases, so sand and silt settle in the pipe and a line fills from the bottom up.

Clay that predates plastic

Salt-glazed earthenware pipes went under much of the suburb long before PVC existed, beneath weatherboard and fibro cottages alike. Its joints are short and many, so there are more places for fat to catch and roots to enter. A water-only wash suits it better than a cutter.

Soil that shifts

Reactive clay and alluvial ground move with the seasons, and a pipe nudged out of line holds a lip where grease builds.

When We're Not the Right Call

Jetting cannot straighten a pipe that a leaning retaining wall has pushed out of line. The wall is a job for a builder or landscaper first, and a split section then goes to pipe relining. Where roots split the joint, tree root removal takes over.

Jetting Questions

Does jetting remove tree roots or just wash around them?

It shreds fine roots and flushes them back to the opening. What water cannot do is close the joint they came through, so where the footage shows a split joint, the cutting and repair follow.

Will high pressure crack the old clay sewers in Blackalls Park?

Not when the head and pressure suit the pipe. Glazed clay gets a lighter setting than PVC, and the camera pass afterwards checks for any crack that was already there.

Can the jetter clean a stormwater line on a low Blackalls Park block?

Yes. The nozzle pulls itself along the run and drags silt back to the pit, where it comes out instead of settling again. On flat ground that sediment is what fills the line.

Do you use chemicals as part of the jetting clear?

No. The jetter runs on water only, so nothing caustic ends up heading for the bay or the creeks. If water is not enough, the next step is a mechanical cut.
