Plumber Awaba

Plumbing in Awaba comes back to the bush: forest runs right up to most boundaries, and its roots find their way into the village's old clay drains. Awaba sits beside Blackalls Park, and Blackalls Park Plumbing Co covers it on the same run for drains, hot water, gas and after-hours faults, with a fixed figure first.

A Railway Village in the Forest

Streets from the 1890s

The village grew up with the railway and the collieries, and its handful of streets date from the 1890s. Simple weatherboard and fibro cottages sit well apart on big blocks with bush on every side, with brick-veneer among the later homes.

Clay drains a century old

The buried drainage under the old street grid is early clay pipe, laid long before modern joints. Reactive clay and shale have moved under them for a hundred years or so, shifting the joints, and some of the oldest lines are close to collapse.

Roots from the state forest

Awaba State Forest surrounds much of the locality, and forest gums send roots toward any old joint that leaks moisture. Cracked clay also lets soil wash in, so a line silts up and blocks again until the damage is repaired.

Steel pipe and old tanks

Railway-era cottages can still have steel water services from before copper was standard, and hot water tanks here tend to stay in service until they fail.

A small, spread-out village

The census counted 142 dwellings, and 97.9 per cent were separate houses. Long runs from meter to house mean a split steel line can waste a lot of water unnoticed.

What We Handle in the Village

Plumber feeding a drain camera into a pit at a commercial unit

Blocked drains

Root cutting and camera checks on the old clay lines, with relining where a joint has split

Plumber finishing a continuous-flow gas hot water install

Hot water

Repairs or a new system when an old tank finally quits, and a temporary tank in between

Gas fitter checking an oven connection

Gas fitting

Heaters and cooktops for the cold valley winters, and BBQ points on the back deck

Plumber collecting gear from the ute toolbox

Emergency plumbing

Split steel lines and a blocked main that leaves the house without a toilet

When we're not the right call. The table drains and road verges along the village streets belong to the council, so a flooded roadside drain goes to them; the pipes on your block are ours.

Questions From the Village

Do you charge a call-out fee to reach Awaba?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). The plumber inspects, gives you a fixed figure, and the job goes ahead only when you agree to it.

Can you come out to Awaba after hours?

Yes, we are Available 24/7. A choked main line can leave a household with no working toilet, and that is worth a night visit at the after-hours rate.
